2026 HFA Advocacy Summit
From Credibility to Influence
The June 9 Advocacy Summit is intentionally structured to prepare attendees for effective federal engagement by aligning the industry around a unified prevention-focused narrative. Throughout the day, sessions will help participants strengthen their understanding of the policy landscape, sharpen messaging, and prepare for direct engagement with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill.
11:00 – 11:45 a.m. Registration & Arrival

Details Attendees arrive, network, and begin building alignment ahead of the day’s programming. This opening period is designed to encourage relationship-building and establish a unified industry presence before the Summit begins promptly at noon.

The keynote conversation will focus on prevention, readiness, and long-term wellness while reinforcing the industry’s role in helping improve measurable health outcomes at scale. The session will also include the formal announcement of HFA’s new Service Ready initiative focused on strengthening military readiness and physical preparedness through community-based fitness infrastructure.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. From Patchwork to Predictability: Why America Needs a National Data Privacy Standard

The discussion will also examine policy efforts such as the SECURE Data Act and broader conversations around federal preemption, consumer trust, cybersecurity, and the future of digital health and fitness engagement in an increasingly connected economy.

3:15 – 4:15 p.m. From Evidence to Influence: Physical Activity in the GLP-1 Era

Details This session offers a preview of a new GLP-1 white paper and will focus on how structured exercise supports strength preservation, long-term adherence, healthy aging, and healthcare cost containment. In the second part of the session, attendees will hear directly from a lawmaker with healthcare jurisdiction on how we can frame physical activity as essential healthcare infrastructure rather than a complementary wellness tool in discussions with policymakers.
4:15 – 5:00 p.m. Hill Readiness Briefing
Details This closing session prepares attendees for Congressional meetings the following day by aligning participants around key federal policy priorities, messaging frameworks, storytelling strategies, and effective use of industry data. The briefing is designed to ensure a coordinated, professional, and impactful industry presence across Capitol Hill engagements.
6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Welcome Reception

Details Hosted within one of Washington’s most historic venues, the evening reception brings together industry executives, policymakers, healthcare leaders, and invited guests in a setting that reinforces themes of national strength, readiness, prevention, and public service. The reception is designed to elevate the Summit beyond a traditional industry gathering and further position the industry within broader national conversations around health and long-term well-being.
During the reception, HFA will also present its inaugural HFA Heavy Lifter Awards recognizing members of Congress whose leadership has advanced policies supporting physical activity, prevention, and the health and fitness industry. This year’s honorees include Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, for his commitment to advancing business-friendly tax reform and longstanding efforts to expand HSA/FSA eligibility for physical activity expenses, and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) for his leadership on expanding HSA/FSA eligibility for physical activity expenses and his work to further integrate physical activity guidelines into federal government operations.
7:30 – 9:30 PM HFA Leadership Dinner

Keynote Speaker Dr. Mehmet Oz Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services US Department of Health and Human Services Details The evening program will focus on the critical role physical activity plays in healthy aging, chronic disease prevention, and improving quality of life for older Americans. Discussions throughout the dinner will reinforce the importance of ensuring seniors have greater access to structured physical activity opportunities and community-based fitness resources as part of a modern preventive healthcare strategy.
The conversation will also highlight the growing opportunity for collaboration between the health and fitness industry, CMS, and federal policymakers to better integrate physical activity into healthcare delivery, prevention efforts, and long-term strategies aimed at improving health outcomes while reducing overall healthcare costs.
