US Fitness Facility Traffic Remains Ahead of 2025 Through Midyear

The latest Fitness Industry Traffic (FIT) Tracker shows that US commercial fitness demand remained resilient through the first half of 2026. Although average visits per location edged down 0.5% in Q2 against an all-time-high 2025 comparison, year-to-date traffic remained 1.5% above last year.

Boutique studios led the quarter with 2.5% growth, while HVLP gyms held near record levels. June provided the clearest sign of renewed momentum, with visits increasing month over month across all four industry segments (see chart).

It’s important to note that the FIT Tracker measures foot traffic only (actual visits) and not membership totals, so variations in attendance are subject to numerous factors (e.g., weather, local events, school vacations, etc.) Still, this data is a valuable guide to overall trends, which continue to show positive momentum in US commercial clubs and studios.

It tracks performance by facility type, region, and visitor demographics.
