More Research Reports, More Insights on Growing the Industry

It was a record-setting year for HFA research projects.

In 2025, HFA published more exclusive research than in any other year, providing actionable data that brings clarity to current trends and helps fitness businesses of all types adjust to changing market conditions. HFA research also supported other industry goals, such as increasing public investment in promoting physical activity.

Under Vice President of Research Anton Severin, surveys, data collection, and collaborations with other research firms and industry partners have led to the production of a new release almost every month.


2025 US Health and Fitness Consumer Report: Expanded Insights

This new report is the second installment in the annual consumer study by HFA researchers. While the previously released Headline Trends report presented a high-level snapshot of nationwide participation and growth, Expanded Insights explores the behaviors, preferences, and demographics behind that growth, offering a closer look at how members actually engage with their fitness environments.

This report illustrates how Americans are blending equipment, formats, and coaching in ways that are reshaping how facilities serve their members. We’re seeing greater variety in how people train and a stronger focus on longevity, recovery, and balance—clear signs that fitness has become a lifelong pursuit rather than a temporary phase.

The 2024 Latin America Fitness Consumer Survey

The 2024 Latin America Fitness Consumer Survey, released by HFA and ABC Fitness, collected data from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.

At the heart of the fitness movement in these countries are fitness facilities in metro areas where 61% of consumers exercise multiple times per week and 78% do so at least a few times each month. For most of these active individuals (55%), health and fitness facilities serve as their primary exercise location, valued for their effectiveness (35%), convenience (32%), and access to equipment (29%).

The survey highlights how fitness memberships play an important role in supporting active routines. Sixty-nine percent of physically active consumers in the surveyed markets belong to a fitness facility. As demand for structured fitness continues to grow, 53% of non-members say they are likely to join a fitness facility in the coming year. That figure is higher in Brazil, where 72.9% of non-members are likely to join a health and fitness facility in the future.

The findings show that the region is primed for growth.

Although much of the data is consistent across each country, Latin America is not a monolith when it comes to consumer motivation and local customs.
