AN UPDATE ON HFA’S EFFORTS ACROSS THE GLOBE
US States Make Their 'Moves' During May
About half of US governors issue official proclamations recognizing the importance of fitness in the month of May.
Every May, the White House issues the annual presidential proclamation designating May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Not to be outdone, nearly half of the 50 US state governors made similar proclamations this year.
Nearly every region of the country, except Alaska and Hawaii, saw states joining the movement to encourage movement. From the West (e.g., California, Washington) to the East (e.g., New Jersey, New York) to New England (e.g., Vermont, Massachusetts) to the South (Georgia, South Carolina) to the upper Midwest (e.g., Minnesota, Michigan) to the Great Plains and mountain regions (e.g., Colorado, Montana), the gubernatorial call went out to exercise for better health.
The HFA advocacy team played a part, encouraging state governors to join the movement, and many listened. On this page are some of the proclamations issued.
Thanks to the governors of the states who participated. Next year, let’s go for 50!
