AN UPDATE ON HFA’S EFFORTS ACROSS THE GLOBE
US States Make Their 'Moves' During May
About half of US governors issue official proclamations recognizing the importance of fitness in the month of May.
Every May, the White House issues the annual presidential proclamation designating May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. HFA builds on that momentum each year by leading a nationwide advocacy effort, working with HFA members and partners to encourage governors to issue similar proclamations in their states. This year, nearly half of the nation's governors joined the movement.
From the West (including California and Washington) to the East (New Jersey and New York), New England (Vermont and Massachusetts), the South (Georgia and South Carolina), the Upper Midwest (Minnesota and Michigan), and the Great Plains and Mountain West (Colorado and Montana), governors across nearly every region of the country recognized the importance of physical activity and encouraged their residents to get moving.
On this page, you'll find a selection of the proclamations issued across the country.
Thank you to the governors who participated in recognizing National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Next year, let's make it all 50!
