THE STORIES BEHIND THE NEWS

Fitness Technology Summit 2025 Chooses Mastery Over Disruption
Owners, operators, and tech leaders from across the industry gathered in Chicago on October 13-15 to learn how to harness the power of AI, data, and automation.
American statistician W. Edwards Deming famously said, “In God we trust; all others bring data.” The 13th annual Fitness Technology (FIT) Summit, held in Chicago on October 13–15, 2025, tried its best to make data a bit more trustworthy—and useful—in the age of AI.
Hosted by ALTA Technology Group, led by managing partners Al Noshirvani and Tara Levitt, the three-day conference drew approximately 350 attendees from more than 130 fitness brands collectively serving an estimated 50 million members worldwide.
The invite-only event attracted C-suite leaders from across the global industry for discussions on how technology is reshaping the business of fitness. The event’s 2025 theme, Mastering Digital Personalization and Tools: Unleashing AI and Data for Unforgettable Customer Experiences, centered on practical applications of AI as it continues to disrupt businesses in all sectors.
But it wasn’t all numbers and algorithms. The FIT Summit was preceded by a celebration of life for industry legend Rick Caro, who passed away August 31, 2025 (see below). Another highlight was a presentation of a sizable facsimile of a check from ALTA Technology Group, Zenoti, and EGYM, which collectively donated $55,000 to the Health & Fitness Association. The giant check was gratefully accepted onstage by HFA President and CEO Liz Clark (see sidebar).
AI on the Agenda
Noshirvani, who is also vice chair of the HFA board, is widely recognized as a trusted authority on fitness tech. He is a founding advisor on the newly formed HFA Digital Health Council , which will play a leading role in establishing best practices for AI, biometrics, and data management, while seeking ways to integrate tech services from a wide variety of stakeholders.
The FIT Summit featured a number of panels, fireside chats, and networking sessions on topics in those areas, such as:
● Turning data into ROI
● Practical AI applications, from personalization to retention
● Understanding Gens Z and Alpha
● Building smarter data infrastructure
One highlight was the FIT Summit advisory panel, which looked at how leading fitness brands such as EōS Fitness, Equinox, and The Bay Club Company are redefining personalization through smarter use of data and AI.
In 2026, two FIT Summits have been scheduled: the first in London on May 19–20, followed by the US event in Washington, DC, on October 12–14 at the Gaylord National in National Harbor.
The Check’s NOT in the Mail (It’s Too Big)

Organizers of the Fitness Technology Summit have a history of donating to industry causes, and the 2025 event was no different. Al Noshirvani, ALTA Technology managing partner and HFA board vice chair, is a strong supporter of HFA’s advocacy mission. As co-owner of the FIT Summit, Noshirvani has used the event as a rallying cry to support HFA advocacy. That includes raising money for the effort.
In 2022, the FIT Summit gave $125,000 to the National Health and Fitness Alliance (NHFA), HFA's policy committee at that time. At this year’s event, ALTA Technology Group, Zenoti, and EGYM combined to make a $55,000 donation to HFA in support of global research initiatives, underscoring a shared commitment to data-driven industry advancement.
To commemorate the donation, HFA President and CEO Liz Clark accepted a sandwich-board-sized check from Noshirvani; Tara Levitt, ALTA Technology managing partner; Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer, EGYM co-founder and CEO; Dana Milkie, EGYM general manager, North America; and Andrea Baba, Zenoti Mexico director.
After accepting the check for HFA, Liz Clark said: “The last few years we've really expanded our research, and contributions like this go tremendously far for creating [reports on] measurable KPI, benchmarking, studios. … [It will] also help fund our advocacy efforts.”
Noting the size of the check, Clark joked, “I’m honored, but I don’t know how I’m going to fit this in the overhead compartment.”
She managed—the funds have been safely secured by HFA accountants. HFA would like to thank ALTA Technology Group, Zenoti, and EGYM for the donation.

The two-day event included multiple panels from leaders in the technology space.
Rick Caro Remembered at the FIT Summit
On October 13, organizers of the FIT Summit held a celebration of life for industry founding father Rick Caro. An influential industry visionary, Caro passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 79. A co-founder of HFA, Caro was a member of the inaugural class of the HFA Hall of Fame in 2025.
Al Noshirvani, a close friend of Caro, hosted the event as part of the welcome reception for the FIT Summit. The event drew industry leaders who lived up to the “celebration” meaning of the event, as Caro was remembered for his friendship, knowledge, and paternal mentorship. An investor and consultant to multiple successful fitness businesses, Caro’s influence will be felt for decades to come.
In 2024, Noshirvani honored Caro for his contributions to the industry by establishing the Rick Caro HALO Innovator Award, which is presented annually at the FIT Summit. (HALO is an acronym for "health, active lifestyle, and outdoors.") The recipient of the first 2024 Rick Caro HALO Innovator Award was Pete Moore, managing partner of Integrity Square. Caro attended the event in 2024.
During the 2025 FIT Summit, the Rick Caro HALO Innovator Award was given to Carol Nalevanko, president of Village Health Clubs & Spas. One of Caro’s close contemporaries, Nalevanko accepted the honor from Noshirvani in a bittersweet moment. The much-honored Nalevanko is a former HFA board member and earned the HFA 2023 Woman Leader Award.
